Sat Apr 02 10:31:30 2005 GMT: OpenWatcom C++ Compiler Improvements

Sun Mar 20 19:29:37 2005 GMT: Linux 2.4.29 on wrt54g

Sun Mar 20 19:26:54 2005 GMT: lsh-utils 2.0.1 for Debian woody

I have updated my lsh-utils package for Debian woody to 2.0.1 which fixes a denial of service vulnerability, see my Debian packages page.

Mon Mar 07 21:43:41 2005 GMT: Partial Template Specializations

I have made steady progress on implementing partial template specializations for the OpenWatcom C++ compiler in recent weeks. It still might not be perfect, but the most common cases seem to work and I hope that I will soon be able to add partial ordering of template specializations to the compiler.

Tue Feb 15 21:21:30 2005 GMT: news.individual.net

Starting on April 1st, news.individual.net will be converted to a fee-based service. According to their Web site they have 250,000 registered users and are Europes biggest news server (if you leave the alt.binary.* hierarchy aside).

So I guess that this change will negatively affect the European Usenet as not all users will be prepared to pay for the service and not every ISP does provide a reasonable news server for its customers.

Fortunately, there are still free alternatives, like news.sunsite.dk, around...

Tue Feb 08 22:36:57 2005 GMT: JabRSS Downtime

Apperently, with around 1400 users, JabRSS is slowly approaching the limits of the Jabber server it is using. Due to the size of JabRSS's roster, the Jabber server locked up whenever JabRSS tried to login.

Fortunately, with the help of Marco we were able to track down the problem and fix the Jabber server (jabberd 1.4 cvs), so JabRSS is now able to login again and perform its duties.

Sun Feb 06 19:51:05 2005 GMT: Solaris 10

I tried to install Solaris 10 on an AMD64 machine, but unfortunately I didn't get far because of missing device drivers for the SATA controllers (the motherboard is equipped with an VIA VT6420 SATA RAID controller and a Promise PDC20378 (SATA150 TX) SATA controller - both controller seem to be not supported by Solaris). So if Sun wants to win back some market share from Linux users, I guess they will have to work hard on device drivers as these controllers aren't particulary unusual.

Sun Feb 06 19:42:28 2005 GMT: Malta Photos
