Following my previous post, I have now properly packaged my SSL-enabled version of NewsCache. I have now also created a NewsCache project on my DevCorner.

I have just added some basic SSL support (using gnutls) to my version of NewsCache. It doesn't do any certificate checking and I still need to update the configure/packaging scripts, but it appears to work quite nicely with at least news.solani.org and news.motzarella.org.

Last weekend I spent a couple of days in Dublin, so I have just added a few pictures to my photo album: part 1, part 2 and part 3. Note that I have tried to avoid duplication from my previous visit (and here).

I just got my server whitelisted at dnswl.org, see DNSWL Id 15652. Not sure if it makes much difference in practice, but at least it shouldn't hurt.

Sometimes, knowing how things work really helps - for instance, knowing that Open Document (and Microsoft's Open Office XML) files are actually ZIP archives containing XML files really helps when you want to parse documents to do automated code generation. And if you happen to know some Python you can do pretty amazing stuff in just a couple of lines of code by using the ElementTree XML API to extract data from your documents.
