Have a look at some pictures of Salisbury Cathedral in the September sun with blue sky in the background. Sun Sep 20 07:53:22 2009 GMT: Lake District Holiday Weather in the Lake District last week was surprisingly good with just one rainy day, but plenty of sunshine. So feel free to enjoy a couple of pictures from the Eskdale (for Sca Fell and Scafell Pike) and Grasmere (for Helvellyn) areas: part 1, part 2, part 3 and part 4. On the way up to the Lake District I also made a short break in Lancaster. BTW, as I was busy uploading photos to my web site, I also finally added some pictures from a Thames river boat trip between London Westminster and Richmond back in August. Sun Aug 30 18:56:00 2009 GMT: reddit threads community I have just started a threads community on reddit to cover topics such as multithreading, concurrency and parallel programming. Feel free to join if you are interested. Sun Aug 30 18:49:44 2009 GMT: Skypephone S2 Last weekend, I got myself a Skypephone S2 to get some of the more modern mobile phone features. While it's not a full-features smart phone, it does include a limited web browser that appears to work quite well for text-only content. And as it's called a Skypephone, I have now finally created a Skype account (with the usual user name), so you might be able to reach me via Skype on my mobile phone - it's just a shame that it's not a Sipphone. BTW, I also got the bluetooth connection working to my Linux laptop for using the phone as a HSDPA modem. Wed Aug 12 19:47:14 2009 GMT: 3 Mobile Internet I just had to try mobile internet myself now. So I got a 3 mobile broadband dongle, a free 3 SIM and topped up to get 150 MB Internet usage for 90 days. It all works fine under Linux and there doesn't appear to be any port blocking on the Internet connection - OpenVPN and even SixXS work fine. Of course, it's all a bit slow with pings at around 120 ms (and mostly just plain 3G - I have only sporadically seen HSDPA connectivity), but it's fine for low-bandwidth usage to stay connected.
