As I haven't found any reasonable network service monitoring tool, I have decided to write my own. Downtime is a lightweight and modular monitoring tool written in 100 % pure Python. It currently supports these services: DNS, HTTP, SMTP, SSH, XMPP.

Finally got my own ENUM domain registered for my mobile phone +43-650-6263379. I just don't know exactly what I can/will be doing with this ENUM domain. And btw, the Web interface for setting up NAPTR records is still a bit buggy - some of the NAPTR records don't show up in the Web interface (which means that I can't delete them).

I have finally debianized PyXPCOM (based on Mozilla 1.5 from backports.org) which should now make it reasonable simple to get JabRSS running on a Debian woody box. As usual, the package is available from my Debian packages page.

Several news sites (pressetext.at, heise online, Webhostlist.de) reported on Friday that EURid has released an "official timetable" for the ".eu" domains.
But in fact, no such "official timetable" exists. What does exist, though, is a "tentative timetable" which seems to have been created around Dec 16, 2003 and is referenced on EURid's FAQ page. It's also worth noting that the news sites mention EURid as the source, but they only link to dotEU.info/united-domains.de.
So what does this tell us about the quality of these news sites?
