I have just started the big JabRSS migration, see here for the gory details.

Gaim has finally released a 1.0.0 version, so here is my Debian woody backport of it.

Sun Sep 12 20:39:55 2004 GMT: bogofilter-tdb 0.92.6 for Debian Woody

I have updated my bogofilter package (using tdb as its backend) for Debian woody to 0.92.6, see my Debian packages page.

Wed Sep 08 20:32:14 2004 GMT: Lycos VDS File Locking Problem

First of all, I am not sure if this problem is specific to Lycos VDS specific or if it is a general LinuxThreads (and NFS) problem.

If in a multithreaded application a file is opened and locked in one thread, but closed in another thread the file remains being locked. And on the Lycos VDS setup the file lock even survives a reboot of the system.

I have reported the problem (including some sample code) on the Lycos VDS forum.

Sun Sep 05 18:26:25 2004 GMT: JabRSS Updates

There are going to be some changes to the JabRSS service in the coming days and weeks. Most importantly, JabRSS will be moving away from the jabber.at server to a cmeerw.net Jabber server (which is operated by swissjabber.ch as I currently don't have the hardware resources to run it myself, so many thanks to swissjabber.ch for the generous offer).

The main reason for this change is to improve responsiveness of the JabRSS service which should be achievable with a dedicated c2s (Jabber client-to-server) component provided by swissjabber.ch with no bandwidth limitations (which currently is the main reason for JabRSS's slow interactive responses). Another reason is to make it more obvious that JabRSS is not a service provided by jabber.at (they are not running JabRSS and therefore shouldn't be bothered with support requests if JabRSS is broken).

I intend to make to transition to the new server as easy and painless as possible. I have installed a new JabRSS instance (jabrss@cmeerw.net) on my Lycos VDS beta test account which can already be used to test the new setup (but it might be unavailable at times or the database might be reset).

Once the new setup appears to be stable (maybe in about 1 or 2 weeks), the JabRSS instance for jabrss@cmeerw.net will be transferred to edge.cmeerw.net and the JabRSS instance for jabrss@jabber.at will be moved to the Lycos VDS beta server (and will stay there until the Lycos VDS beta test period is over and the server is shut down). So there will hopefully be plenty of time to switch to the new JabRSS instance - and I even hope that I can provide some migration assistance in JabRSS...
