From time to time my xfce4-volumed and xfce4-mixer-plugin get into a state where they consume 100% CPU. I have now been able to find the corresponding Ubuntu xfce4-volumed bug and track it further down to a GStreamer bug. Essentially, GStreamer gets confused when a sound device (like a USB headset) is unplugged.

I have now been able to successfully connect to a public wireless LAN under Linux with my Acer Ferrari, so the WLAN issues mentioned appear to be limited to this specific ad-hoc network configuration.
BTW, Swindon is to become the first town in the UK to offer free wireless internet to all residents. And quite interestingly, BT has now revealed that it is planning to upgrade two exchanges in Swindon (Blunsdon and Toothill) for fibre-to-the-cabinet.

BTW, I am currently backing up via webdav to mydrive.ch using my own webdav scripts to compress and encrypt the files on the fly. It's completely free for up to 2 GB of data...

From further discussions on the opera.linux newsgroup, my understanding is that IPv6 has essentially been disabled on Opera (for Linux AMD64?) because they can't figure out when to use IPv6 and when to go for IPv4 only (because the machine might not have IPv6 connectivity).

Based on initial feedback in the opera.linux newsgroup, I have now filed a proper bug report (DSK-272658) for the IPv6 issues I am seeing in Opera 10.10. Let's see if this will be worked on or fixed...
