Sat Feb 15 21:30:35 2014 GMT: C++14 Draft International Standard

The C++ Standards Committee has just voted to produce a Draft International Standard. As the voting was uncontroversial at the meeting (with no "No" votes), it's likely that this will be published as C++'14 around August after going through the ISO ballot process (hopefully with no "No" votes, otherwise an amended Final Draft International Standard will need to be produced at the meeting in November).

One thing that's probably worth pointing out is that a change is likely to be made for auto type deduction with braced initializers (it will still deduce an initializer_list for copy-list-initialization, but will deduce the element type for direct-list-initialization where the list has one element and will be ill-formed otherwise), although this change will be made after C++'14.

In the world of TSes there was lots of progress.

The Filesystem TS is in the ballot resolution stage and working on resolving any comments from the PDTS ballot.

For the Library Fundamentals TS, a toal of 13 papers (string_view, any, polymorphic memry resources, faster string searching, data sampling, variable template type traits, apply, SFINAE-friendly iterator_traits, SFINAE-friendly common_type, extending shared_ptr, optional, invocation type traits) were adopted.

Both the Concurrency and the Parallelism TS will produce an initial working paper, although these are seen as needing lots of work over the coming meetings. Back to the core language, the Concepts TS will also produce an initial working paper.

And finally, a new work item for a Transactional Memory TS has been created.
