Mon Aug 11 18:32:02 2014 GMT: Torridon (Scotland Wester Ross) Holiday

Been to Torridon (Wester Ross) for some well-deserved holiday for the past few days. Although the weather was quite Scottish (lots of rain), I still managed to enjoy it quite a lot. Most of the time I stayed at the Torridon camp site (which is quite basic, but free), but also spent one night wild camping in the hills next to Loch Coire Lair and another night at the Tea House mountain bothy.

Pictures are available from my digital photo album as usual.

Sun Jul 20 10:03:09 2014 GMT: OpenLayers vs. leaflet

But now I have pretty much rewritten all the JavaScript code of HikingGuide. Last week I finally realised that OpenLayers must be the reason for frequent application/browser hangs on my Firefox OS phone (usually after a few minutes of the application tracking my movements). Of course, you only really see these hangs out in the field where you are not able to attach a debugger to it...

Anyway, I have now switched to leaflet and implemented offline storage on top of the functionaltilelayer which actually is easier to integrate with the async-only IndexedDB interface than the hacks I had to use for OpenLayers. The good news is that this combination seems to be quite stable now as it worked flawlessly on a walk around Oxford yesterday.

I guess next on my to-do list would then be the ability to export recorded tracks in gpx format and then work on the user interface a bit...
