Sun Jul 04 18:02:43 2004 GMT: makecontext on AMD64/x86_64

Apparently, the makecontext function only works with (32-bit) integer arguments on AMD64/x86_64 which makes it useless for most real-world applications that try to use makecontext (because it's not possible to pass (64-bit) pointers as arguments).

A quick check of other platforms (thanks to HP's Test Drive) revealed that all other 64-bit platforms allow pointers to be passed to makecontext, except on Linux for Alpha which doesn't implement makecontext at all -- though Tru64 Unix for Alpha does implement makecontext.

Sun Jul 04 17:51:32 2004 GMT: OpenWatcom 1.3 RC1

Release candidate 1 of OpenWatcom 1.3 has been released. So I guess the final 1.3 release will happen sometime in July.

Meanwhile I have worked a bit on namespace issues in the C++ compiler. My current development compiler (which isn't in the Perforce dev-branch yet) even passes most regression tests (or should I say all that I have tried, i.e. regress/positive and regress/diagnose). These changes will be part of the 1.4 branch...

Sun Jun 27 12:43:22 2004 GMT: jabberd 2.0s3

I have updated my jabberd installation on cmeerw.net to 2.0s3. Unfortunately, I have already found a bug in one of its new features. And their bug-tracking tool also seems to be somewhat broken: the bug report did contain a '\0' (as a text string) which the bug-tracking system seems to have interpreted as an ASCII 0-character (or end of string marker). Is this exploitable?

Sun Jun 27 11:37:37 2004 GMT: cmeerw.org Relocation

As a consequence of a recent downtime, my Web hoster has decided to move the servers to a new data centre last Friday which will hopefully improve stability of the Web hosting service.

Sun Jun 27 11:31:46 2004 GMT: Back from LinuxTag 2004

I have attended some interesting technical talks at this year's LinuxTag and also joined a demonstration against software patents on Thursday evening. Henrik Mitsch has done a good job at posting notes about some of the presentations in his blog.
