Sat Oct 23 18:11:30 2004 GMT: OpenWatcom 1.3

With a 2 month delay, SciTech Software has finally updated the OpenWatcom Web site for the OpenWatcom 1.3 release (which happened sometime in August) and put the 1.3 source code on the server.

Due to the Perforce server having problems with large numbers of anonymous clients, they have now disabled anonymous access to the Perforce repository (but hope to be able to provide anonymous CVS access soon).

Sun Oct 17 10:28:00 2004 GMT: Debian woody Package of dosemu 1.2.2

I have packaged dosemu 1.2.2 for Debian woody, see my Debian packages page.

Sun Oct 17 10:24:33 2004 GMT: Debian Sarge on Lycos VDS Server

After updating my Lycos VDS server to Debian sarge last weekend, most of the issues seem to have gone away. So I guess the file locking and disk space issues are related to the threading library (Debian woody uses LinuxThreads, whereas Debian sarge uses the new Native POSIX Threads Library).

Sun Oct 03 14:45:49 2004 GMT: It's Not a Memory Leak, it's a Cache

If you are using gphoto2 to download your pictures from your camera, you will probably notice that it consumes huge amounts of memory if you have lots of pictures to download. But as I have learned today from this bug report, it's not a memory leak, but a cache - I just don't understand the reason for caching when you only want to download all pictures to your harddisk (i.e. invoking "gphoto2 -P").

Sun Oct 03 14:28:13 2004 GMT: Lycos VDS Issues

Today I noticed that the available disk space on my Lycos VDS account is constantly decreasing, leaving me with an unusable server with only about 20 MB disk space left (although according to "du -skx /" about 400 MB should still be available).

I have reported the issue on their forum - actually, I believe it's somehow related to the file locking issue I reported earlier (but which seems to have been ignored lately).

Oh, and the jed/screen issue also remains to be fixed.

To sum it up, I don't think their VDS servers are already production quality (although I have to admit that the average LAMP user will most likely not run into these kind of issues).
