edge.cmeerw.net is now back online (with Ubuntu Dapper Drake) on a new virtual server (this one is now based on Virtuozzo instead of UML). JabRSS is now also back online with a database backup from June 5.

Of course, a server always crashes at the worst possible time. I already ordered a new virtual server for edge.cmeerw.net last week and planned the migration for later this week. Unfortnuately, there won't be much to migrate now as the old server crashed on Saturday and I have now been informed that the data on that server has been lost (although the server was supposed to have a RAID).

Walter Bright (the DigitalMars guy) has written an interesting article about Hotrodding C++ where he explains some really nasty C++ tricks to achieve maximum performance.
But I don't understand why he is using a reinterpret_cast to counterfeit the this pointer and not just break the one definition rule and use different header files for interface and implementation. Basically, this would have the same characteristics as the reinterpret_cast version, but would be even faster as there is no need for another level of indirection when invoking a method.
