This Thursday we had local elections in Swindon. Maybe the most exciting thing about the election was that you could opt to cast your vote over the Internet (even though doubts over its security remain).

I have just upgraded my laptop to Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04). The update process was quite smooth, but I did notice two issues: the sitecopy package appears to be broken and there are some dependency issues with firefox/libxul-dev (these packages depend on conflicting libnspr packages).
Tue Apr 24 20:23:23 2007 GMT: Salzburg Holiday
I just returned from a few days holiday in Salzburg. Because of the great weather I decided to walk up the Gaisberg on Saturday afternoon (where the damage done by Kyrill was still clearly visible). On Sunday I walked up to the "Toni Lenz Hütte" (see some pictures) - the path from there leading to the Mittagsscharte still being closed (and partly covered in snow) served as a perfect excuse for not walking any further.

I used the great weather during the Easter weekend (with temperatures reaching 20C) to spend Saturday in Cardiff and Sunday in Bath. According to the Guardian the April heatwave could even reach 25C this week.
BTW, I got myself a MP3 player for Easter - even though it was a cheap one from Tesco, it does work flawlessly. For downloading the latest podcasts, I am currently using my own WebRSS service (but I had to extend it to implement basic RSS enclosure support).

I only noticed today that there were riots at the Gare du Nord in Paris on Tuesday evening (see Paris riot becomes election issue and Sarkozy's policies blamed for riot at Eurostar terminal). For some reason I didn't even notice when I took the Eurostar back to London on Wednesday morning, but it's still scary...
