Fri Apr 30 21:02:57 2010 GMT: Native IPv6 Connectivity Wed Apr 14 08:04:14 2010 GMT: Fix for Berkeley DB's SQLite Concurrency Issue Thu Apr 08 19:45:38 2010 GMT: Concurrency Issue in Berkeley DB/SQLite Looks like I have found a genuine concurrency issue in Berkeley DB's SQLite. Sun Apr 04 21:21:18 2010 GMT: Ubuntu Lucid Lynx Just updated to the Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (10.4 LTS) beta today. The update went quite well, except that the Gossip instant messenger package has disappeared. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any reasonable lightweight instant messenger client available. The only alternatives (empathy or pidgin) are quite heavyweight and would pull in most of GNOME - something I would want to avoid as I am running XFCE. As a workaround, I have just re-compiled Gossip for lucid lynx which appears to work fine for now... Thu Apr 01 20:20:08 2010 GMT: Berkeley DB Ships with SQLite Interface Oracle has just released Berkeley DB 11gR2 (11.2.5.0.21) which includes a new SQLite interface. This sounds like great news for SQLite as it adds a new storage backend with better concurrency capabilities (but comes with a more restrictive Open Source license). Sat Mar 27 08:42:18 2010 GMT: Moving As well as moving from Swindon to London a couple of weeks ago, I also moved my virtual server to a new hosting provider: IP-Projects. In addition to being cheaper than my previous provider, I now got a massive 100 GB of disk space. I have also changed IPv6 connectivity from SixXS to HE's tunnelbroker via a tunnel-server that's just 3 hops away. Sat Mar 06 14:08:22 2010 GMT: Mobile Broadband Update While the mobile signal was a bit flakey in Swindon (the connection sometimes fell back to plain UMTS), it's absolutely fine here in London with HSDPA/HSUPA - I guess, being on the 7th floor also helps a bit. Download speeds seem to vary a bit, but I sometimes get speeds of up to about 4 Mbit/s. BTW, while the advertised mobile broadband packages in the UK, aren't as cheap as in other countries, there are ways to bring the costs down a bit by using a promotion code (25% off) and signing up via Top CashBack.
