Thu Apr 01 20:20:08 2010 GMT: Berkeley DB Ships with SQLite Interface

Oracle has just released Berkeley DB 11gR2 (11.2.5.0.21) which includes a new SQLite interface. This sounds like great news for SQLite as it adds a new storage backend with better concurrency capabilities (but comes with a more restrictive Open Source license).

Sat Mar 27 08:42:18 2010 GMT: Moving

As well as moving from Swindon to London a couple of weeks ago, I also moved my virtual server to a new hosting provider: IP-Projects. In addition to being cheaper than my previous provider, I now got a massive 100 GB of disk space. I have also changed IPv6 connectivity from SixXS to HE's tunnelbroker via a tunnel-server that's just 3 hops away.

Sat Mar 06 14:08:22 2010 GMT: Mobile Broadband Update

While the mobile signal was a bit flakey in Swindon (the connection sometimes fell back to plain UMTS), it's absolutely fine here in London with HSDPA/HSUPA - I guess, being on the 7th floor also helps a bit. Download speeds seem to vary a bit, but I sometimes get speeds of up to about 4 Mbit/s.

BTW, while the advertised mobile broadband packages in the UK, aren't as cheap as in other countries, there are ways to bring the costs down a bit by using a promotion code (25% off) and signing up via Top CashBack.

Sat Feb 20 14:17:05 2010 GMT: Going Mobile

As mentioned last year, I have now canceled my landline phone line and broadband package and am switching to mobile broadband (using a Huawei E1750 USB dongle) on the Three network. The hardware works fine on my Ubuntu Linux laptop, so let's see how it works out in everyday use.

Sun Feb 07 19:27:44 2010 GMT: Opera IPv6 Support

According to a message on the opera.linux newsgroup from "Tommy A. Olsen", IPv6 support in Opera for Linux will be fixed in the upcoming 10.50 release. That's certainly good news, so let's hope it will be released soon.
