Just returned from a week's holiday in Salzburg with perfect weather during the week. Managed to do a bit of walking on the Untersberg (see part 1 and part 2) and Schlenken/Schmittenstein.

Some time ago I was wondering why I never got any updated of applications installed from the Firefox Marketplace (including my own HikingMaps application) and raised in on Mozilla's support forum here (which is also tracked in this bugzilla entry).
It looks like ZTE have replaced the standard update mechanism with their own update tool. However, that update tool only appears to care about system updates, resulting in Marketplace apps to not be updated at all.
Investigating the issue in a bit more detail I have now written a small CheckUpdate app that should trigger a manual update check and at least on my phone this seems to have done the trick - I immediately got a notification about 7 updates being available. I am now just waiting for feedback to see if it solves the problem for others as well...

HikingMaps 0.4 got approved in the Firefox Marketplace within minutes today (actually at the same time as version 0.3 I submitted yesterday). This version is now much more conservative when calculating elevation gain/loss (due to jittery GPS data) and keeps track of min/max elevation. It's also the first version that's usable out of the box with a current version (i.e. 37) of Chrome/Chromium as Chromium now finally supports storing blobs in an IndexedDB database. So there is a good chance that the app can be used on other mobile platforms in the near future.
