Thu Aug 26 22:23:36 2004 GMT: OpenVPN 2.0-beta11 Wed Aug 25 20:41:02 2004 GMT: OpenWatcom 1.3 Released Sun Aug 22 13:34:19 2004 GMT: Lycos VDS Update It seems that the Lycos people have really been working hard over that past few weeks to get their VDS systems more stable. One of the more interesting points of their setup is that VDS client systems are not associated with a single master system, but each client can be moved to a different master after a reboot (supposedly depending on the load of the master systems). Lycos seems to be using either Dual Pentium III @ 1266 MHz or Dual Xeon @ 3.2 GHz systems as VDS masters. Sat Aug 21 16:04:42 2004 GMT: Swedish Lapland Pictures I have added 421 pictures from my holiday in Swedish Lapland to my digital photo album. Mon Aug 16 00:46:06 2004 GMT: Back in Salzburg After two weeks in Swedish Lapland (with no Internet access, no newspapers and no TV news) I am finally back in Salzburg and have lots of catch-up work to do. Unfortunately, JabRSS didn't survive my vacation. As promised, I have taken more than 400 pictures which I am going to add to my digital photo album during the next few days. Sat Jul 31 16:20:52 2004 GMT: Vacation I am currently packing my bags for a much needed 2-week vacation in the north of Sweden (somewhere around Klimpfjäll, Jokkmokk and Björkliden). I don't think I will have any Net access there, but I will definitely try to take lots of pictures... Sat Jul 31 10:04:05 2004 GMT: Lycos VDS Beta Lycos is currently running a public beta test for Virtual Dedicated Servers. Luckily, I managed to get a free beta test account yesterday. The servers seem to be physically located in Stockholm and are running a developer version of Linux VServer on a patched 2.6.8 pre-release kernel. One limitation of Linux VServer, of course, is that you can't use iptables or a VPN package like OpenVPN, cipe or OpenSWAN. If the contents of the proc filesystem can be trusted, they use dual Pentium III @ 1266 MHz with 4 GB of RAM. Yesterday, the system feeled to be a bit sluggish, according to vmstat the system had to cope with more than 3000 context switches per second which I guess might be the cause. I am currently unable to login, but according to the Lycos VDS Beta Forums this is a common problem. I guess there is still some hard work to be done by the Lycos VDS team to get a stable product.
