For the past few weeks (since I upgraded to Ubuntu edgy eft) I have been annoyed by an undesirable interaction between gaim and fvwm's default handling of the "urgency" WM_HINT. This is because fvwm raises a windows, gives it the focus and moves the mouse pointer to the top left corner of the window when the "urgency" hint is set (which is the default behaviour in Ubuntu's gaim when it receives an instant message). This is just way too intrusive and a potential security nightmare.
Of course, thanks to the extensive configurability of fvwm, the fix is trivial once you know what's causing this annoying behaviour (you just have to overwrite fvwm's UrgencyFunc with something more sensible...)

As the amount of spam I am receiving through my contact form has constantly been increasing through the past few month, I have now put some simple counter-measures in place. Let's see if the spammers will adapt...

After a long time with online limited Internet access, I have now finally managed to get a landline telephone + ADSL broadband connected here. I even got the Speedtouch 330 ADSL USB modem working under Linux (which was quite straigforward, except that I had to separately download the modem fireware).
Once online, I updated my laptop (which was still running Ubuntu breezy badger) to the Ubuntu edgy eft beta.
BTW, I only opted for a 1 Mbps connection, but that should be fast enough, particulary as ELinks is still one of my favourite browsers.

I spent last week on holday in Belgium (Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent) and Luxembourg, weather was quite good, with sunshine half of the time. I'll try to add a few photos to my digital photo album in the next few days.
